Ingredients

Scale
  • Saltine crackers

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, crushed candy canes, sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring until bubbly.
  4. Pour the toffee mixture over the crackers and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 5-6 minutes or until toffee is bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  7. Once the chocolate has melted, spread it evenly over the toffee.
  8. Add any optional toppings like nuts or crushed candy canes.
  9. Let it cool completely and break into pieces.

Notes

Use a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy pan to press the crackers into an even layer. For contrast, finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt while the chocolate is warm. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
