Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish.
- In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese over the top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Dot the top with butter.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
Choose a starchy potato variety, such as Russet or Yukon Gold, for the best texture. Allow the dish to rest for a few minutes after baking to help the layers set nicely.
