Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of brioche or thick bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramelizing)
- Optional toppings: fresh berries, whipped cream, maple syrup
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, ensuring both sides are coated.
- Place the coated bread slices in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the French toast for 25-30 minutes until set and lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven, sprinkle brown sugar evenly on top, and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until golden and bubbly.
- Serve warm with optional toppings like fresh berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup.
Notes
Use slightly stale brioche for the best texture. If no torch is available, broil for a minute or two to caramelize the sugar. Leftovers can be stored for up to three days.
