Ingredients

  • 2 cups sauerkraut, drained and chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sauerkraut, cheese, breadcrumbs, onion, flour, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  2. Shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Fry the sauerkraut balls in batches until golden brown on all sides, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot as an appetizer or side dish.

Notes

Ensure sauerkraut is well drained and excess moisture is pressed out before mixing. Refrigerate shaped balls in advance and fry when ready.
